Each CD holds a maximum of 80 minutes.

The total cost depends on the length of the tapes and how many CD's we make.

Unless the owner has logged the tape and knows the duration, it is hard to predict how long each tape is. Knowing the size of the reel does not mean very much. It depends on how thick the tape is (which determines the length of the tape), the speed at which it was recorded, the number of tracks, if the tape was recorded on both sides, etc.

The best approach in this situation is to know our pricing structure (see above).

Armed with this knowledge, you can order based on an "estimate" of 1 CD per tape. However, it could be 2 CD's per tape (even more, if the tape was recorded at very slow speed). 

We will not know how may CD's will result until we actually finish recording each tape. 

If, after we begin processing, we find out that the tape is blank or can not be recorded, we will not make a CD, but charge instead a "Recording Fee" of $14.25 plus return shipping, and return the material to the customer. 

If your tapes are longer than 80 minutes each, each tape will be split in several CD's.  (We are unable to span CD's over several tapes).   

Do not send in tapes if you are not prepared to pay for all the CD's that may result from the tapes.

Do not select "1 CD made out of 2 small reels" if the combined duration of both reels is more than 1 CD.  If sending 10 inch reels, the pricing for "1 CD made out of 2 small reels" does not apply.  We will charge the pricing for 1 reel per CD.  If you still want 1 CD made only, tell us and if possible, we will make 1 CD only.

Do not ask us to make editorial decisions or to perform a "tape logging" service.  We will be unable to listen to the contents of the tape and only put on CD selections that meet certain criteria.  Tape logging services will be charged our studio rate of $115 per hour.  We are a transfer/conversion service and do not have the possibility to make editorial decisions. 

Do not ask us to record, than delete portions of the tape in order that the job will result in fewer CD's.   Example, do not ask us to record a tape, than put on the CD only songs 3, 7, 11 and 19.  Or, record a tape, than ask us to delete all radio shows and leave only people talking.  We are only able to convert full tapes, with all material that is contained on the tapes.  Only blank spaces will be edited out.  Tapes that must be recorded in their entirety, but have excessive blank spaces, will be charged an additional $14.25 recording fee.

Do not send in tapes that are all "scrambled up", i.e. portions are recorded forwards, other portions are backwards, the tracks/channels are not consistent, many speed changes, etc.  To "make sense" of a tape like this we will charge our studio rate of $115 per hour. 

If the tape needs splicing, we will charge $14.25 Recording Fees for each group of 3 splices (or part of a group of 3 splices) we perform.
