The Skyliners (Arthur Johnson-John Burke) Pennies From Heaven Since I Don't Have You

Engage!     Warp!

Released in December, 1959.

Our visitor Jose Morais - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil writes:
"Pennies From Heaven". Up-beat version of Johnson/Burke standard, released in the spring of 1960. "The Skyliners", five Pittsburgh teenagers, became the first white group ever to top the R&B charts ("Since I Don't Have You", 1959). They performed at "Apollo" on eight occasions. The group was formed of members from three different groups: The Crescents, The Montereys and The El Rios. In mid-1958 they were Jimmy Beaumont (17, lead singer), Janet Vogel (16, top tenor), Wally Lester (16, tenor), Joe VerScharen (17, baritone) and Jackie Taylor (17, bass).    (Thanks, Jose, for the excellent info!)

Our visitor Brian Boscia writes:
the girl who killed her self from the skyliners was my x girls great aunt! i seen pics of her holding up golden records an u can tell she was a depressed person! what she did runs in the family becaus my x girl tried to do the same thing over me "tried to kill her self"?? my x an her family wouldnt talk about her very much because of what happened?!     (Mmmmmm. . . Thanks, anyway, for the info!)
