Unforgiven All Is Quiet on the Western Front The Unforgiven

Engage!     Warp!

The UNFORGIVEN were for about fifteen minutes (during the late 1980's), America's favorite guitar warriors...  This is a great song!

Our visitor Patrick writes:
The Unforgiven, fun and talented band. Ya, I used to see them quite a bit out here in L.A.. What would you like to know about 'em? Steve Jones wrote the songs (as John Henry Jones), as he had in the Stepmothers (a noted local punk outfit with an album out). Johnny, on guitar, later formed Cracker. Todd Ross, the excellent guitarist is hanging around Barstow, I think. His brother, Jeff, is pretty well regarded in the local country/rock circles, having played with the likes of Rank and File and Candy Kane, among others. Hope I've been of service, somewhat.   (Patrick, you've been more than "somewhat" of service.  Great info!  Thanks!)

Our visitor who signs  g r a c e  writes:
Some other people might have emailed you with some info but here is what I know. Mike Jones or as he was known in the Unforgiven, Just Jones, is currently a high school social science teacher. I had the privilege of having him as an Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher and an Advanced Placement Economics teacher. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California. He teaches at John Marshall High School. He let me borrow a copy of the album and I really enjoyed it. One of the best songs on there was the band's version of Amazing Grace which they just called, Grace. One of the other members, Michael Finn is also a teacher at Marshall High. I'm not sure of his name in the band. Jones and Finn are still friends and they are small time celebrities at the school. I hope I was able to give some information previously unknown.   ( g r a c e!   You are amazing!  This is the best!  Thanks a bunch!)

Here is another great contribution by our visitor Doug Nyland:
When I was in high school in the Los Angeles area in early 80's there was a local band that was my favorite band. They were called The Stepmothers. The Stepmothers put out one LP in '81 called "You Were Never My Age" They were a hard edged, melodic, post punk (well, punk was still going on, so maybe it wasn't post punk!)The singer was a guy by the name of Steve Jones. The guitar player, Jay Lansford previously in LA punk bands Simpletones and Channel 3.
Fast Forward.
In the late 80's Steve Jones reinvented himself with a new band. He was now John Henry Jones fronting The Unforgiven. John Hickman, now guitarist for Cracker, was in the band. The Unforgiven band had one of the biggest record company bidding wars of the time going for them. Some say that's a tell tale sign of failure. Well, who's heard of the Unforgiven lately? Maybe there's a point to that. They released "All is Quiet on the Western Front". Decked out in Clint Eastwood western clothes they bashed out catchy testosterone laden rock with some western influences and cowboy gang shouted backing vocals (things like "yippee ie yay" and "roving in a rover pack" and "HOOAH!"). Their live shows were intense with 4 guitarists and a bassist lining up in front of the stage looking like they were gonna kick your butt, or pull out a 6 shooter. By the end of a couple of years they had dwindled down to a 4 piece. The only remaining members being John Henry Jones, Alan Waddington 3, and the bass player (forgot his name) On guitar was now Jay Lansford (The Stepmothers)! I saw this incarnation in a little LA club with about 15 people in attendance. That's all she wrote! I don't believe they recorded another record. Jay Lansford is now in a German band called Gigantor. And I read that Steve Jones traveled to Germany and recorded a Stepmothers CD with Jay in 97 but to date it hasn't been released.    (Doug!  Super!   Thanks a million!)
