Video CD (VCD) Transfers
| ATTENTION: This is the Video CD (VCD)
section. If you have arrived here by mistake and you really want to order a DVD conversion,
please go to our DVD
section. |
IMPORTANT:
Folks these days no longer convert their video recordings to
Video CD (VCD). These days everyone converts to DVD. So do
we. Thus, conversions to Video CD (VCD) are no longer offered.
We are keeping this page for "historical" reasons
("those were the days..."). For conversions
to DVD, please see our
DVD Transfers Site
BACK THEN WE SAID:
 | Video CD's are convenient,
and in some countries still very
popular!
|
 | Video CD's can be viewed
on computers, video CD players and some
DVD players.
|
 | Video CD's are a low-quality format, but
they are very convenient: they can be viewed on any computer
that has a CD drive. DVD's are much better quality,
but they require a DVD player or a computer with a DVD
drive.
|
 | Why settle only for the
low quality of a Video CD? Now, when you order video CD's
you will get BOTH: a Video CD (VCD)
and a DVD!
|
 | We produce Video CD's in
both NTSC and PAL formats. (NTSC
is the television format used in North America, PAL is used
in Europe and much of the world.) ATTENTION: we
will produce both the Video CD and the DVD in the same
television format.
|
 | Your original tape or disc
can be NTSC or PAL. (NTSC is the
television format used in North America, PAL is used in
Europe and much of the world.) See
below the specific formats accepted.
|
 | Transfer your videos to
CD's (Video CD / VCD) and DVD at the same time!
|
 | NOTE: We only accept one source (one tape
or disc) per VCD transfer.
|
 | NEWS: VHS SECAM now
accepted as master source!
|
Formats
accepted for transfer to Video CD:
Please check out our price
list.
 | The picture quality
viewed on a television set is comparable to VHS.
Viewed on a computer screen at ½ size, the picture
quality is sharp.
|
 | The Video CD will
hold up to 74 minutes of video (with the accompanying
audio).
|
 |
What
a Video CD (VCD) is:
 |
It is a convenient form of storing
videos for playback on computers.
 |
Send video clips from your latest
vacation to all your friends. Much cheaper
and easier than making multiple VHS tapes.
|
 |
Show your sales presentation on
your laptop. No need to carry the TV/VCR
with you.
|
|
 |
Transfer your original video tapes to
Video CD's and store the master tapes. Play the
Video CD's on a Video CD player or a compatible
DVD player as many times as you want without wearing
out or damaging your master tapes.
|
 |
Video CD's can be played over and
over again. Ideal for a store display: have a
Video CD play in a loop forever, without wear and
tear.
|
|
 |
What
a Video CD (VCD) is NOT:
 | A Video CD is
NOT a DVD. It is
NOT a high quality video format. Viewed
on a television set the picture looks grainy and at
times blocky. Fast moving sequences do not
run as smooth as regular television. On a
computer screen, at ½ size, the picture quality is
satisfactory.
|
 | Why settle only for
the low quality of a Video CD? Now, when you
order video CD's you will get
BOTH: a Video CD (VCD) and a DVD!
|
 | Old DVD players do
NOT play CD-R's. These DVD players will
NOT play our Video CD's. Pioneer models
are known to correctly play CD-R's. New
DVD players play CD-R's.
|
Old model DVD
players do not play CD-R's. New model DVD players play
CD-R's.
How to tell if your DVD player plays CD-R's:
The most reliable method:
send $2 (deposit) for our "DVD Player and
Video CD (VCD) Test CD". We'll send you the CD. If it plays on
your machine, you know all our conversions will play just
fine. If it doesn't play on your machine, you may be able
to get a very cheap unit that will play CD-R's. Take
the Test CD to any retailer and ask them to play
the CD. If it plays, Bingo! You found your
machine. After you perform the test, return the CD and get
your $2 deposit back.
Less reliable methods:
look in the DVD player manual (or ask Technical Support of the manufacturer,
or the retailer) if the player will play Video CD-R's
(that is, Video CD's on CD-R). Unless you see it printed
in the manual, this is less reliable than the "Test
CD" because unfortunately some tech support people do not
know all the capabilities of their machines. Even worse,
many salespeople have no idea what an Video CD-R is and
their answer is a guess (I guess they do, ma'am).
Right. . .
Pioneer DVD Players: we have tested a
number of DVD players. One brand played Video CD-R's across
all models: Pioneer. If you are unable (or unwilling) to
go around testing DVD players, get a Pioneer DVD player.
It is a very good brand and all the models we tested played
video and audio CD-R's.
